Robbie Kruse and Matt McKay are rewarded for their great A-League form with a spot in Australia's 2011 Asian Cup Squad, whilst Tommy Oar and Nikita Rukavytsya were surprising omissions.

The Australian Socceroos squad for the Asian Cup has been announced this afternoon, with Holger Osieck naming four players from the A-League and including some surprising omissions.

Delighted.. Kruse has been rewarded for his great form with Melbourne Victory.

Robbie Kruse and Matt McKay have been rewarded for stellar season thus far, whilst Jason Culina and Jade North retain their spots.

Nathan Coe also got a surprise call up as the third goalkeeper over the likes of Federeci, Langerak and Galekovic.

Meanwhile, Osieck will surely be questioned by the leaving out of youngsters Tommy Oar, Nikita Rukavytsya and Ersan Gulum.

It continues the German’s policy in which regular game time values over club status. That has been the general feeling in the public circles as to why the like of Kruse and McKay were chosen over the likes of Oar.

Nathan Burns has also been rewarded after good form with AEK Athens and Mathew Spiranovic makes his return to the national side after battling injuries. While Osieck has also kept faith with Middlesborough forward Scott McDonald, despite the diminutive forward having yet to score in his 20 appearances for Australia.

J-League Golden-Boot winner Josh Kennedy misses out with an injury.

The usuals have all be retained with Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell, Lucas Neill, Mark Schwarzer and Luke Wilkshere all being named in the 23-man squad.

2011 Australia Asian Cup Squad (appearances in brackets): Nathan Coe (Sønderjysk Elitesport – uncapped), Brad Jones (Liverpool – two), Mark Schwarzer (Fulham – 82), David Carney (Blackpool – 32), Jonathan McKain (Al Nassr – 14), Lucas Neill (Galatasaray – 63), Jade North (Wellington Phoenix – 31), Sasa Ognenovski (Seongnam Ilhwa – one), Matthew Spiranovic (Urawa Reds – five), Luke Wilkshire (Dinamo Moscow – 50), Brett Emerton (Blackburn Rovers – 78), Jason Culina (Gold Coast United – 56), Richard Garcia (Hull City – 13), Brett Holman (AZ Alkmaar – 38), Mile Jedinak (Genclerbirligi –17), Harry Kewell (Galatasaray – 47), Neil Kilkenny (Leeds United – two), Matthew McKay (Brisbane Roar – six), Carl Valeri (Sassualo – 29), Nathan Burns (AEK Athens – four), Tim Cahill (Everton – 46), Robbie Kruse (Melbourne Victory – uncapped), Scott McDonald (Middlesbrough – 20).
