The Australian Open has just kicked of in Melbourne, and on the first day of the tournament, spectators were subject to a dreadful display of grunting. The familiar face of Maria Sharapova and her Russian compatriot Maria Kirilenko put on an exquisite display of grunting to go with the tennis game they were actually playing.
Okay fine, sometime you have to stretch for those shots or you’re that tired that it’s simply normal to let out a grunt. But why then do all players in the world, male and female, not grunt like some others? In this match Sharapova looked like she was doing it for fun at times, every shot, every point, every time. Is this a joke?
But it’s not just her, there are many other cases worldwide that are nearly as bad. So we here at Injury Time want to know what YOU think of the issue that is grunting. Does it frustrate you like a warm English beer, or perhaps does it excite you like a Scotty Sattler tackle in a grand final? Let us know by voting on our online poll, which you will find above or on right hand side of the articles/homepage.
