The A-League Disciplinary Committee ruled last late last night the approximate two month ban for Muscat.
The decision means the Victory captain will miss the rest of the season, regardless of how far his team goes in the finals (should they make them).
Now the headlines have turned to whether Muscat will call it a day.
If he doesn’t, his ban will continue on to next season, meaning he could be out for the first five weeks of 2011/12.
Socceroo Jason Culina came out today claiming that ‘Muscat got carried away’ with the tackle. Whilst condemnation continues to spur with some analysts claiming the suspension was not enough.
At the hearing, which Muscat appeared via video link, he read from a pre-prepared statement.
“I was prepared to accept whatever ban came my way,”
“While I was relieved to hear Adrian’s injuries weren’t career-threatening, I’m still bitterly disappointed by my actions,”
“I wish him a speedy recovery” he said.
And when pressed about the million dollar retirement question, Muscat remained tight lipped.
“I haven’t had a chance to contemplate, or think about it,” he said.
So now the aftermath ensues, with the pressure likely to continue to grow upon Muscat. Will he call it? Will he play on to rectify his career? Will he play Asian Champions League and not next season? Only time will tell.
