It must be said, that in general, the last day of all Football Transfer Windows provide some of the biggest wastes of money that is seen in the world.

Expensive... Is Carroll really worth all the cash Liverpool paid for him?

Perhaps none more in recent times then last night’s sale of Newcastle’s Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

The big target man had been somewhat of revelation this season for the Magpies, netting goals for fun with both his feet and his head.

However, surely his exploits aren’t worthy of £35 million?

This is his first full season in the English Premier League and he only has one senior international cap for England.

Has there ever been a player in transfer window history who has reached such a fee with only one international appearance?

Add to that his fiery of-field temperament that saw him having to live with previous captain Kevin Nolan’s place when at the Magpies, and you’ve got a joke in the making.

The most he is realistically worth is £10 million, in my opinion, and that is still probably too much. When you consider it was only two years ago in the January transfer window that Andrei Arshavin, who was coming off a remarkable bunch of performances in Euro, joined Arsenal for some £15 million or so, this is a huge surprise.

But perhaps the only reason Liverpool submitted such an audacious bid for Carroll was because of their loss of talismanic striker Fernando Torres to Chelsea.

Another ridiculous amount of money spent in the crazy world that is becoming football transfers.

Unless you’ve been hanging out with a bunch of old geezers from the Scorney Gap for the past day, you’d know he moved to Chelsea for another amazing £50 million fee.

One could argue that this fee is easier to understand due to Torres’ overall form in the EPL since joining the Reds from Athletico Madrid.

After all, he is a World Cup winner and has proved to have naturally gifted ability on the field.

His fee just makes one wonder even more about Carroll’s price and whether such a big risk was really needed by Liverpool.

After all, they do have that dirty, handballing, little Uruguayan Luis Suarez joining them from Ajax after a £22.5 million deal. He’s more than capable of playing up front, but one thinks Liverpool wanted some type of assurance with a player who has proved he can score in the EPL already.

That’s a total of £57.5 million on two players.

One who has never played in the Premier League before and one who only has one international cap.

What.

The.

Hell.

I guess those Scousers are just at a stage where they’ll do anything to try and get themselves back into Europe.

Well, the only ‘Europe’ anyone really gives a damn about.

If Liverpool continues to struggle though, well I don’t even know what they’re going to do. They have a new manager, new owners, new players and probably little cash.

Either way, these deadline day transfer fees, a total of £85 million for Torres and Carroll only continues to depict the terrible money-wasting state of football’s transfer window.
